How the calculator works

The calculator performs calendar-aware subtraction rather than dividing by an average year length. It first counts whole years between the two dates, then whole months remaining, and finally the leftover days, borrowing from the actual length of the previous month when needed — so a birth on January 31 evaluated on March 1 yields 1 month and 1 day, not a nonsensical 30-day month. Totals are derived from the true day count: days are computed directly from the date difference, weeks are days ÷ 7 rounded down, hours multiply the day count by 24, and the next birthday is the next occurrence of your birth month and day after the comparison date. Leap-year birthdays on February 29 are matched to March 1 in non-leap years.

Age = difference between the comparison date and the date of birth, expressed as years, months, days
Total days = comparison date − date of birth (calendar days)

  • Years — complete calendar years elapsed
  • Months — complete months after the last full year
  • Days — remaining days, borrowed from the real previous month
  • Total days — exact count including leap days

Someone born on 15 May 1990, checked on 29 August 2026, gets exactly 36 years, 3 months, and 14 days. Behind that figure sit 435 total months, about 1,893 weeks, 13,255 days, and just under 319,000 hours of life so far. Their next birthday (15 May 2027) falls on a Saturday and is 259 days away, and the result row shows the weekday and the countdown together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my age here differ slightly from another website?
Some tools approximate a year as 365.25 days or count months as 30 days, which drifts by a day or two. This calculator subtracts real calendar dates, so the years/months/days breakdown matches civil-registry arithmetic exactly.
How are people born on February 29 handled?
Their birthday is celebrated on March 1 in non-leap years. The calculator counts the legal calendar age correctly either way — on February 28 in a common year you are still one day short of your birthday.
Can I calculate someone's age at a past or future date?
Yes. The second field defaults to today, but you can set any date — for example, how old you will be on a visa appointment date, or how old a historical figure was at a specific event. Past dates before the birth date are rejected with an error.
Is the time of birth taken into account?
No — the calculation works on calendar dates, which is the convention used by documents and official forms. This avoids ambiguity around time zones and birth times late in the day.
